In Nigeria, the list of the unthinkable grows shorter with every passing day. The unthinkable happens with such regularity and frequency that we must now, as a lexical imperative, establish a gradation or hierarchy of such things. On that scale, the merely unthinkable event would occur routinely. The highly unthinkable would occur more sparingly. The prohibitively unthinkable would occur more sparingly still, and the most unthinkable would be one for the ages. Ronaldo completes Man United medical

Cristiano Ronaldo completed a medical in Lisbon over the weekend ahead of his return to Manchester United and has reportedly agreed personal terms on a two-year contract with the Premier League club, according to Sky Sports. United said last week they had agreed a deal to re-sign Ronaldo from Juventus after he told the Serie A club he had no intention of staying, but the transfer was still subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical. The clubs have yet to confirm the Portugal forward’s transfer. The Premier League’s summer transfer window closes tonight at 2200 GMT.

Security stepped up in Oyo after robbers write bank

Security agencies have increased their presence around commercial banks in Oyo town after armed robbers reportedly wrote a commercial bank in Owode area of the town. The Nation reliably gathered that robbers wrote to the branch about one month ago, telling the manager to prepare for their attack soon. It was gathered that the robbers brought the letter to the bank during working hours and handed it over to a security guard who sent it to the branch manager.

Man swallows 87 wraps of cocaine

A suspected drug trafficker, Ibeh Kenneth Ejike, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for allegedly ingesting 87 wraps of cocaine. Spokesman of the agency Femi Babafemi said in a statement in Abuja yesterday that the 41-year-old suspect was arrested on August 25 upon arrival on board an Ethiopian Airline flight 911 from Kigali, Rwanda via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The suspect was taken in upon arrival for secondary check during which he allegedly tested positive to ingestion of illicit substances.

Involvement of youths in cybercrime worrisome, says EFCC

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday lamented the increasing rate of Nigerian youths’ involvement in cybercrimes, saying that over 70 per cent of the country’s young people might soon become ex-convicts. Ilorin zonal commander of the anti-graft agency, Usman Muktar urged every stakeholder in the country to discourage the youth from internet fraud. Muktar said young people were increasingly arrested and imprisoned for cybercrime.He urged parents to query their children’s sources of wealth.

FAAC shares N760.717bn for July 2021

The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) on Friday shared a total of N760.717 billion for July 2021 to the federal, states and local governments. This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the virtual meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for August 2021. The N760.717 billion total distributable revenue comprised distributable statutory revenue of N617.705 billion; distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N140.555 billion and Exchange Gain of N2.457 billion. In July 2021, the sum of N63.501 billion was the total deductions for cost of collection, statutory transfers and refunds. The balance in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) was $60.855 million. The communiqué confirmed that from the total distributable revenue of N760.717 billion; the Federal Government received N321.226 billion, the State Governments received N222.514 billion, and the Local Government Councils received N166.562 billion.
